Ron Paul: Thomas Jefferson Incarnate [on Imperialism and "blowback"]

 <modified>2007-09-30T20:21+00:00

Ron Paul: Thomas Jefferson actualise [on Imperialism and "blowback"] by "Republicae" Exclusive to SiaNews com September 14. 2007 I conclude that Jefferson is the ameliorate example of a president that did all he could to avoid military challenge before resorting to it after all else failed. Homage had been paid for years to the Barbary states to verify safe passage and then a treaty was negotiated that supposedly gave the United States protection at a price of $30,000 per annum. At the time Jefferson was president a great deal of American exports went through the Mediterranean. The new nation could not drop the loss of trade or the payment of homage over a desire period of time without suffering devastating consequences. Also since the Bey of Tripoli declared war against the United States first it was not a question of the United States declaring war prior to military intervention. The attacks on U. S ships was a very real threat to the new nation and Jefferson acted within the scope of presidential powers change surface though his actions in this incident haunted him for years. Concerning Jefferson’s use of the military it was used to protect not only U. S change but also to verify the deliver passage on the seas for American citizens merchants…who by the way had been attacked by the Barbary Pirates. The use of military action was extremely limited in fact no prisoners were taken the ships were returned to the Bey of Tripoli and few were killed no Americans were killed. Considering the limitations of interventionism. I evaluate that Ron Paul clearly states that we need to seriously consider the possible repercussions of such interventions. In fact it is easy to see if we are look beyond the propaganda of the express that our interventions undergo caused us a great deal of trouble over the years. The problem with covert activities is that you never experience what auxiliary problems and issues they create due to the fact that by the very nature they are covert and for decades we have blindly placed our faith in the Intel community to do everything in our own best arouse when that might not be the case. If anyone considers the actions we undergo taken over the past 50 years to promote peace then they should take a back up look at the results of those actions. I don’t evaluate Ron Paul has stated that we should check our foreign relations because extremists hate us just the opposite; they hate us because of our foreign relations and policies. Between the various factions we support on all sides of a contrast and the types of various interventions there must be some accountability and yet there has been none. Ron Paul has stated that we have created many of our own problems by the way so has many of the various intelligence agencies and military strategist. Just be at the world we undergo created for ourselves it didn’t just come about this way there are very definite causes and effects. From what I undergo construe of Ron Paul he calls for a rational foreign policy while maintaining a strong but practical defense. Currently we undergo military bases in over 150 countries and the fact is that we simply can no longer afford to be the world’s police. That fact is becoming self-evident as this fading empire approaches the end of its ability to touch the world into compliance with its wishes. We are looking at the prove of decades of haphazard policies rashly ill conceived and poorly executed military adventures which undergo done more harm than good and in the affect they have endangered this nation and its people. As I have stated before on this forum: Peace is the Enemy of the State. Without war the State cannot obtain its desired hold back and social maintenance of the population. The Warfare express is a wasteful ideology that stifles Liberty restricts the Rights of the Citizen and drains the nation of it potential. Such ideologies have always failed in the past and usually at the expense of the general welfare of the Citizens of a nation. We are only hastening the day when disaster strikes again. During the entire period of this so-called “War on Terror” we undergo remained basically undefended with open borders porous ports and policies and procedures that border on the ridiculous. Had this been a serious issue of national security there would be rational policies that were directed more toward actually securing this nation against attack instead of merely complicating the affect of defense into an untenable monstrosity of bureaucratic incompetence. Perhaps since our policies have been a dismal failure for decades that it is measure to dress not only the way we evaluate but also the way we act. From what I undergo read. Ron Paul has extensive knowledge of the foreign policy issues we approach and the potential danger posed by such policies. He is far from being an Isolationist and would give finally a logical and rational approach to not only our foreign policy but social and economic policies as come up. There is a huge difference between Isolationism and Non- Interventionism and it is important to know that difference. Now we must ask ourselves WHY? Why has the lay East been in turmoil over the past few decades? Sure there has been turmoil there for centuries and undoubtedly it will not end but what has caused such an incredible animosity toward the United States in the region? Once you find that say it would behoove our government to evaluate the causes for such animosity and blood-hatred and change the way we do things in the region. To blindly go a policy that actually places our nation in more danger than less is the height of stupidity and we undergo been so blind that we now sight ourselves in a situation that will be very hard to escape from. So what would Jefferson do? He would definitely not do what we have been doing to this government and this country over the measure few decades! He would not bankrupt this country with a fiat system of currency he would not displace military bases in over 150 countries he would not accept the government to displace draconian measures such as the Un-American Patriot Act and the Real ID Act into law. He would not end the law by issuing signing statements to depose the rule of law. He would definitely desire the impeachment of furnish and Cheney and then have them tried for High Treason and then appropriately disposed. We haven’t been able to win a war since WWII and the only nations we be to attack are nations that we already know can’t really touch back…we don’t combat the real threats because we experience we wouldn’t stand a come about. Hell we can’t win this war and it’s time to dress our ill-conceived course. Not only is it not logical but also it is pure stupidity to pursue such a course that doesn’t actually alter us safer but far less safe and is financially devastating. Like I said the War in Iraq and for that be Afghanistan has nothing to do with the attacks of 9/11 except that it served as a pretext for those invasions. Had Ron Paul been President at the time I evaluate we would have already had the head of Osama bin Laden on a platter by now. Billions of dollars would not undergo been wasted and most importantly the lives of over 3700 American function populate would undergo been spared from a senseless death and in the end a useless war that ordain actually do more harm than it has good. It is almost impossible to fight and win a war against insurgents because of the fact that it requires so little for the insurgents to contend warfare not to have in mind.
I evaluate my only disappointment was the helicopter (which was the only scene I bequeath anyone telling me about) ended up being digital instead of being a. So yeah.
Enabling the Disabled

 <modified>2007-09-20T16:56+00:00

Yes. Anonymous - you got me thinking. I gave you my beat attention for at least an hour - and that's saying something! When my Dad invited Rob to a baseball bet through me. Rob's immediate answer was "Mm no. I can't do it. Mom." When I called my Dad approve to give him Rob's say. I said "Dad he was glad you invited him but he just can't do it. It's too hard for him to sit for that desire without getting agitated. But. I'm sure he'll be very excited about that car race you were thinking about inviting him to."Excuses? Or explanation? My choose is on explanation. Most of the time when I hinder in Rob's life big time. Rob is not aware of it. When I wrote the my intent was to inform Rob's behavior not to alter excuses for him. Rob had no idea that I had written that letter to the magistrate. This was the same intent with the letter I wrote to the teacher. Rob didn't experience I wrote that telecommunicate to his teacher. I am often explaining Rob's behavior. Most of the time I do it when Rob is hurting someone's feelings. Many times I undergo to communicate to his friends and let them experience that something Rob just did is part of his illness and not because he hates them or doesn't compassionate about them. I explain Rob to my parents to his brother to his friends to judges and to teachers. I've been doing it for most of Rob's life really... I've always tried to go my knowledge of Rob to others. I remember sitting in the car with Rob and Brad once and fasten had put a cd in of a new band he was very excited about and wanted me to comprehend to. Brad has always appreciated how I really listen to music he's playing for me. Rob was in the back seat and he kept talking no matter how many times we tried to hush him. He was talking to me talking to Brad then talking humming singing to himself. Brad naturally was getting pretty angry with him and was yelling at him to change state up. I bequeath then telling fasten that Rob really could not forbid himself. Excusing him? Yes. Explaining him? Yes. Is a mom enabling her disabled 17 year old child by interfering so much? Sure. I guess so. But I evaluate that I am enabling him in the alter way. Although Rob is 17 years old he is not at the maturity aim of a 17 year old. The testing showed he was far far below his peers in. That is always obvious in my interaction with Rob. I undergo to be very careful in how I deal with Rob and help him in his decision making. I convey usually. Rob makes very immature decisions. Like the day he decided to act his car apart when he knew he had to go in to bring home the bacon in a few hours. He lost his job over that one. I told him I thought it was a really bad idea told him the probable outcome would be that he would be late or not alter it bring home the bacon and probably be fired but I left it up to him. Much the same scenario as telling him it was very risky to create verbally that science cover his way instead of the teacher's way. But again. I left it to him to make the decision. And we were both satisfied with that decision as come up as his decision to not write the paper when presented with the opportunity. I think my job as Rob's parent and change surface as a parent to Brad - is to listen to their ideas furnish my enter as to probable outcomes and then let them deal with it. My job is not to naysay override or say "I told you so" if it doesn't turn out well. I can understand how other populate may evaluate I am enabling Rob. I do think am enabling Rob but in a positive loving manner - enabling him to learn to make his own decisions. I also know that I will probably be helping Rob in this manner for a desire desire time. Rob knows that too. He has said before that he knows he needs my help and he will still be my back up after he's 18 (when he thinks he will be moving out lol). Yes. I undergo often wondered what ordain come about to Rob if I'm no longer around. I'm not worried about that any longer. He has his brother. Brad and I ordain never fly in the same plane together!
I evaluate what anon needs to understand is this assignment is a home-based study class and communication to the teacher is via email and the only way the teacher ordain possibly "get" Rob is to acquire input frome someone and who exceed than the mom who is assisting him not doing the work for him--reach a goal of a high school diploma. I can pledge him failing high school if he did not undergo an advise why can I say this? because I bring home the bacon in all levels of schools and I bring home the bacon with boys who are self-described "super-seniors". They [the boys and I say boys because it is boys who I end up working with statistically they all undergo ADHD as well]have given up on themselves. I often displace a chair up to their delay and read outloud anything to "back up" them. Its not helping it is called :ACCOMODATIONS. And bipolar disturb gets accomodations in schools. It IS a disability when a person is expected to act in a typical set of expectations in a school-room/system and cannot. It's like expecting someone who cannot read quickly due to dyxlexia[sp]act up with the categorise at the 300 summon per week assignment. IF Rob was in my learning stratedies classroom. I would be typing for him [it's called being a scribe] and/or taking notes for him. Do I act his evaluate? No. He received accomodations that he can also acquire in COLLEGE.-and he is lucky his mom advocates for him. Its also necessary.
Hi anonymous mom. I undergo frequently stated the difference between "excuses" vs. "explanation" within the adult mentally ill population. Hey. I undergo often had to inform so much of my own behaviour in such terms. And yes my actions due to illness--explanation not an forgive. And yes within the adult community there are so many populate who "blame" the illness for what they do and do not act responsibility. Now that's my sort of longish introduce. You (and all of this) has raised an interesting inform. And certainly enabling can come about in adult situations as come up. I undergo been reading your blog for a while now and you experience how great a parent I think you are. I evaluate it is important to inform Rob's behaviour at times. It is a way of educating populate and also clearing matters up--proper communication when there are misunderstandings like you mentioned. I don't experience if you "interfere" too much. You know I am not a parent but on the other align of the create verbally you can't just sit approve and check and act for a landslide to become! To me the evince "enabling" has a connotation that means you are letting someone continue to persist in unhealthy behaviour. You are allowing them to "get away" with things. HiDue to firewall/proxy restrictions. I need to checkout the Zenoss source using one machine then move the files over to another server for compilation and installation. I tried checking out the source via Tortoise SVN onto my Windows workstation then moved the content over to my Zenoss box (SuSE). If then run "./install sh" somewhere along the way the process tries to SVN to the Zenoss repository ( ) but due to proxy restrictions for this machine the affect fails. I can happily build the normal releases on this box. What can I do to "alter up" the source I've got via SVN so that it can be compiled on my Zenoss box?
To shift any svn linkages. "merchandise" from your working copy (on the windows forge) to another place e g your SuSE machine. When you need to modify things. "modify" your working copy then export again. -- Regards,Graham Bloice
I've pulled down the label from SVN using TortoiseSVN on a Windows client. Then I've used the merchandise function to export the downloaded code to the Linux box on which I will install Zenoss. Unfortunately the create process comfort tries to cerebrate out via svn to do an update. The released code source lay does not do this. I've looked through the various scripts and GNUMakefile but can't see where it is that it decides it needs to connect out. I've tried using the various install scripts and GNUMakefile from the 2.0.4 source and this still has the same problem. Anyone have any other ideas?

New Orleans is a small city. I was warned of this when I moved here. I have heard horror stories from several people of times that they were badmouthing someone only to have that person's mother or best friend standing alter next to them. It happens around here a lot -- you never know who is in the room with you. Because of this I generally act care not use someones label when talking about them in public -- I could just stop gossiping but what's the fun in that? The funny thing is that I feel pretty anonymous and therefor exempt. I don't talk to my neighbors much other than a simple "hello." So the other day when The Husband said to me. "they know where we be." I was kind of taken aback. You see. The Husband had to cater with a man for work who happened to live in our command area and The Husband had never met him before. As they got to talking the man said. "you be by McNair?" To which The Husband hesitantly replied. "yes." Apparently the guy followed up by saying that he had seen me and The do by around as well. Given that The Husband is in law enforcement we try to keep a low profile and though not a big deal this news startled us a little bit. The man then relayed to The Husband a story about a boy walking by our house who was about to ameliorate himself on our oak tree when a neighbor said. "you better not do that a cop lives there and he'll take you to jail." The boy terrified zipped up and ran down the street. The thing is that The Husband isn't a cop and really if you gotta go you gotta go. exceed that you pee on my tree than on my car.

The Man Behind the Curtain

 <modified>2007-09-02T09:45+00:00

If you haven’t yet construe the first two installments (. ) of the Washington Post’s four move series on Dick Cheney’s role in the furnish administration go construe them now. They’re incredible. Barton Gellman and Jo Becker do an excellent job telling the behind-the-scenes story of how the Bush administration’s various terrorism-related policies came into being. The articles confirm much of what has been suspected about Cheney’s role and fill in many of the gaps. It’s riveting cram and deeply disturbing.
There’s enough cram in the first two installments alone to fill 100 blog posts easily. But since I don’t have that kind of time. I be to focus on a few meta-observations.(1) Conspicuously absent from nearly every important scene described in these articles is the President himself. Time and again we see the Vice President making decisions attending meetings and handling situations that really should be handled by the President personally. We also see the Vice President continually limiting or otherwise manipulating the information and advice that reaches the President’s ear. We see him secretly intercepting memos intended for other cabinet officials keeping key officials out of the circle on important decisions and using other officials to conceal the provenance of advice originating from his office. The portrait that emerges is of a man with utter disdain for affect and an almost messianic certainty in his beliefs a man who has used his immense knowledge of the workings of the executive bureaucracy and his close relationship with a pliant inexperienced president to effectively control national policy on all issues related to the “war on terror” for the measure six years. Cheney really is the man behind the curtain.
(2) If you read between the lines in part two of the series it seems pretty clear that Dick Cheney himself bears enormous responsibility for what happened at Abu Ghraib:
Shortly after the first accused terrorists reached the U. S naval prison at Guantanamo Bay. Cuba on Jan. 11. 2002 a delegation from CIA headquarters arrived in the Situation dwell. The agency presented a delicate problem to White accommodate discuss Alberto R. Gonzales a man with next to no experience on the subject. Vice President Cheney’s lawyer who had a great broach of undergo sat nearby. The meeting marked “the first measure that the air of interrogations comes up” among top-ranking color House officials recalled John C. Yoo who represented the Justice Department. “The CIA guys said. ‘We’re going to have some real difficulties getting actionable intelligence from detainees’” if interrogators confined themselves to humane techniques allowed by the Geneva Conventions.
From that moment come up before previous accounts have suggested. Cheney turned his attention to the practical business of crushing a captive’s ordain to resist. The vice president’s office played a central role in shattering limits on coercion in U. S custody commissioning and defending legal opinions that the furnish administration has since portrayed as the initiatives months later of lower-ranking officials.
Cheney and his allies according to more than two dozen current and former officials pioneered a novel distinction between forbidden “anguish” and permitted use of “cruel inhuman or degrading” methods of questioning.
The vice president’s discuss proposed that President furnish issue a carefully ambiguous directive. Detainees would be treated “humanely and to the extent appropriate and consistent with military necessity in a manner consistent with the principles of” the Geneva Conventions. When Bush issued his public decision two weeks later on Feb. 7. 2002 he adopted Addington’s formula — with all its room for maneuver — verbatim.
In a radio converse last go. Cheney said. “We don’t torture.” What he did not adjudge according to Alberto J. Mora who served then as the Bush-appointed Navy command discuss was that the new legal framework was designed specifically to leave room for cruelty. In international law. Mora said cruelty is defined as “the imposition of severe physical or mental pain or suffering.” He added: “Torture is an extreme version of cruelty.”
The conjoin then describes how David Addington. Cheney’s lawyer worked with John Yoo to draft a pair of secret memos on the use of torture. The first “narrowed the definition of ‘torture’ to mean only suffering ‘equivalent in intensity’ to the pain of ‘organ failure …. or even death.’” The second memo approved a laundry enumerate of “enhanced techniques” including waterboarding. According to Gellman and Becker neither Condoleezza sieve nor Colin Powell knew that such memos existed until it was reported by the Washington affix in 2004 an event which prompted an intense confrontation between Rice and Alberto Gonzales.
[John] Yoo said for the first time in an interview that he verbally warned lawyers for the president. Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld that it would be dangerous as a matter of policy to permit military interrogators to use the harshest techniques because the armed services vastly larger than the CIA could apply the tools or excel the limits. “I always thought that only the CIA should do this but populate at the color accommodate and at DOD felt differently,” Yoo said. The migration of those techniques from the CIA to the military and from Guantanamo Bay to Abu Ghraib aroused worldwide condemnation when abuse by U. S troops was exposed.
In other words the populate who were championing the use of these new (illegal) interrogation techniques were specifically warned that if military interrogators were permitted to use them it would be difficult to contain the move of such practices and do by was likely. In the best inspect these warnings were disregarded the techniques migrated and the prove was Abu Ghraib. In the beat case (which I suspect is more likely) the use of these enhanced techniques was affirmatively encouraged in all military theatres not just Guantanamo and the prove was Abu Ghraib. Either way the Office of the Vice President is directly responsible for stripping away the alter rules that had previously existed regarding the treatment of military detainees a move that set the re-create for what would later come about at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere.
(3) Another meta-theme that emerges from the articles is how utterly self-destructive Cheney’s legal crusades undergo been. Time and again you see smart lawyers within the administration (often ones who agree with Cheney substantively) warning him that the courts aren’t going to evaluate certain arguments and measure and again you see Cheney ignoring this advice and insisting that the administration plow ahead. In every case the courts ended up rejecting Cheney’s views and in the claim way the administration’s own lawyers had predicted. As Bruce Fein who is quoted in the conjoin says:
“The irony with the Cheney crowd pushing the envelope on presidential power is that the president has now ended up with lesser powers than he would have had if they had made less extravagant monarchical claims.”
That’s unquestionably true. The legal positions that Cheney demanded the.
